Kids in cages = not OK.

We’re witnessing a ramping up and coordinated defense of a Trump administration policy of separating families seeking asylum. That policy is resulting in children being warehoused in cages and ripped away from their parents, as their mothers are told they are bathing. Their. Mothers. Are. Told. They. Are. Bathing. A Honduran father seeking asylum hanged himself in a Texas jail after his wife and 3-year-old were separated from him at the border. Jeff Sessions tells a horrified Hugh Hewitt that this forced separation policy is purely instrumental because we must “send a message” to future asylum-seekers that “if people don’t want to be separated from their children, they should not bring them with them. We’ve got to get this message out.” Give your Representatives a new message: this is NOT OKAY.

More like Dick Mulvaney.

On June 6th, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau dismissed all 25 members of its Consumer Advisory Board, a group of experts that the head of the CFPB—currently Mick Mulvaney, a longtime foe of the bureau—is required by law to consult with in-person twice a year. The move is the latest in a series of dramatic, sweeping changes introduced by Mulvaney, who has relaxed regulation of predatory payday lenders, stripped enforcement powers from agents tasked with weeding out lending discrimination, and even gone so far as to change the agency’s name to the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection. Mulvaney has long crusaded against the agency, famously calling it a “sick, sad” joke, and once co-sponsoring legislation as a congressman aimed at shutting down the bureau entirely. Write your Representatives and demand they protect this important bureau THAT WAS STARTED TO PROTECT US.

Abstain from abstinence-only education.

Abstinence only programs don’t work. And the Trump administration is making their abstinence only policies openly racist, to boot. Tell your elected officials you believe in science and sex ed should be for everyone!

Bring back net neutrality!

Tell your senators they should restore a free and open internet by reinstating net neutrality and ensuring ISPs can’t block or throttle content or create “fast lanes” before the window to do so closes on June 12th. The FCC’s rollback of net neutrality was bad for internet users.

Now Hiring: Ambassadors!

Tell your elected officials to turn up the heat on this administration and fill the 38 existing ambassador vacancies. Diplomacy is our first line of defense abroad and our US Embassies need to be properly staffed.

Republicans love criminals?

Just because our president flouts the rule of law, that doesn’t give other people a pass. White collar crimes are crimes. Why are some Republican hopefuls in the 2018 mid-term elections getting a pass for being criminals? Hold your representatives to higher standards!

There’s still a refugee crisis.

Palace intrigue within the Trump Administration is sucking all the air out of important international crises. Tell your elected officials that we need to put more pressure on Myanmar to protect the rights of the Rohingya muslims fleeing to Bangladesh.

Get vaccinated.

It’s time for Congress to get serious about vaccines. “Anti-vax” parents are hurting the health of our nation. Tell your elected officials to pass comprehensive legislation to ensure every child gets access to the vaccinations he/she needs. We mandate that parents must secure their children using car seats and seat belts, vaccines are no different.

Save Obamacare in your state!

If the federal government can’t get its act together, tell your state lawmakers that it’s time to show a little political courage. Tell your state level representatives to keep their health insurance markets from becoming casualties of Trump’s attacks.

Stop the Opioid Crisis.

Tell your Senators we need to take the opioid crisis seriously and pass CARA-2.0. Help our fellow Americans put an end to addiction and hold pharmaceutical companies responsible for their part in this epidemic.
