Back to school season, but Sec. of Education Betsy DeVos is hard at work squashing civil rights probes regarding the treatment of our nation’s students. Enough already! Over the summer, Rep. Maxine Waters, D-CA., introduced the Education Department Civil Rights Transparency Act, which was co-sponsored by 20 other members of Congress. The legislation would require the U.S. Department of Education to reveal which schools have been accused of violating students’ civil rights, as well as any corrective actions or other resolutions of its probes. For complaints it declined to investigate, the department would have to publicly explain why. Tell your Congressmen and women to support this Act!

Tell your senators to vote no on the confirmation of Kathy Kraninger to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. She refuses to disclose her involvement with the policy of separating children and parents at the border, her close ties with payday lenders and more.
Tariffs are terrible.
What do soybean farmers have in common with Stormy Daniels? They’re being paid to keep quiet after getting screwed by Donald Trump. The administration announced that it will provide $12 billion in temporary aid to agricultural producers who have been swept up in the president’s widening trade war. Trump’s tariffs are a disaster and he’s providing disaster relief to our nation’s farmers in an effort to keep them quiet. Tell your elected officials to stand up to this administration’s harmful tariffs and actually put American interests first.

Asylum-seekers who are victims of domestic violence are fleeing for their lives, and deserve to be treated with respect. A bipartisan group of representatives in Congress voted on Wednesday to block part of the Trump administration’s latest attack on migrants entering the country as asylum-seekers. On occasion it seems like Republicans do the right thing. When that happens, let’s remember to say thank you in hopes that there are more positive things to come.
